ST. PAUL EARLY CHILDHOOD LEARNING CENTER

        "The Peaceable Kingdom"

ABOUT US

Director's statement

It is our hope and expectation that our unique and innovative program will become well known for our progressive philosophy and curriculum in the areas of peaceful conflict resolution, anti-bias education and creative, emergent curriculum. We also offer a unique science, technology, engineering and math (S.T.E.M.) program in which these content areas are taught through our arts integration program. We will become a close-knit, loving family of parents, early childhood educators and wonderful kids! Whenever there is a question of what is best for the program, we always promise to look at the issue from about two feet in height. In other words, we try to make decisions based on what is best for each child. We truly feel that God is watching over our program and is guiding us as we go. We pray we go well.

open door policy

At St. Paul ECLC, feel free to drop in and join us ANYTIME. Parents and grandparents are always a fun addition to lunchtime too! Please remember though, that young children expect to be taken home when they see their parents. You can help us preserve classroom routines if you explain beforehand that you will be “visiting” and will return later to pick up your child.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.” Matthew 5:9

goals

  • To provide a safe, peaceable, healthy and nurturing atmosphere for the academic, social and emotional growth and development of the children in our care.

  • To offer a unique program that excites children about science, technology, engineering and math.

  • To ensure that Christian ethics are an integral part of our curriculum. We see each child as a gift from God and celebrate individual interests, abilities, and diversity.

  • To offer curriculum and classroom atmospheres and activities that spark each child’s interests. This atmosphere gives us an excellent base for enhanced and extended learning.

  • To encourage a love of books and storytelling.

  • To establish close ties between families, the early childhood learning center, and the St. Paul Lutheran congregation with many opportunities for involvement.

  • To educate, support, and provide resources for our families as they travel the wonderful and challenging stages of early childhood development.

mission

Our mission is to create a partnership with the parents and families of our community that is grounded in God’s love, and that will nurture the growth of young children in a safe and loving Christian environment.

Christine Merrill - Director

I have worked with children birth to five years old for 22 years. I have been a preschool director since 2006 and began working at St. Paul ECLC in 2012. Prior to this, I worked as a case manager for abused and neglected children and I have also worked as a lead teacher. I have a CDA (Child Development Associate), Directors Credential, BA in Psychology, and a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education. I am currently enrolled at Southeastern University pursuing my doctorate in education. I grew up in Sarasota and currently live with my husband and two teenage daughters, Anne and Tiffany. God is truly at the center of everything I do in my life and I know he has gifted this school with his everlasting love.

Miss Lisa - Assistant Director

I have been in the child development field for 26 years. I have my CDA (Child Development Associate), VPK Certification, and Level 1 Director’s Credential. I am currently working on my AA degree in Early Childhood Education. I have been at St. Paul ECLC since the 2012 school year.  I am married and have two children, Ian and Addison. I truly love being a part of children’s growth and development; it has been my passion since a young age.

Miss Skye - Floater Teacher

I have been working with children for about five years now, I started as a babysitter/nanny in 2013 and began teaching at St. Paul last fall (2018). I love spending my time with children and it has always been a dream of mine to be a teacher. I just graduated from Suncoast Technical College with my C.D.A. The early years play an important part in a child’s life and I am so very grateful to be apart of them.

Miss Cindy - VPK Teacher

I have been a preschool teacher since 1982 and I have had the joy and blessing of working with every age group, from birth to five. I graduated from the Ohio State University with two bachelors degrees. One in Home Economics and one in Elementary Education. I was a teacher at St. Paul ECLC when it first opened in 2008 for four years. I was fortunate enough to return in 2017. I enjoy being around children and watching them learn and grow. When I'm not at St. Paul, I am spending time with my husband, seven children, and my dog and cats.

Miss Sierra - Three Year Old Teacher

I entered into the Early Childhood Development field about 1 1/2 years ago, but I have been around children for almost as long as I can remember. Children have always had a special place in my heart. It was so incredible when I was able to advance my knowledge of children and how they grow by becoming a preschool teacher! In my senior year of high school, Early Childhood classes dominated half of each day. I came back the following year and received my CDA (Child Development Associate) credential. I believe that children are a special gift from God, and fostering their growth and knowledge is what He has called me to do.

Miss Jamie - One Year Old Teacher

I’m Ms. Jamie Fowler and I have been teaching for 18 years and I am a Sarasota native. I graduated from Sarasota High School and obtained my FCCPC (Florida Child Care Professional Credential) at SCF in Bradenton, FL. I have mostly worked with one to three year olds, but have also worked in a VPK classroom. It has given me great joy to work with young children. The first years of a child’s life are so very important and I feel grateful to be a part of them.

Miss Amy - Older Toddler Teacher

I began working with children as a nanny. I have also worked as a three-year-old teacher and Pre-K teacher. I have experience working in a nationally accredited program. I have been in this field for over twenty years and began at St. Paul when it opened in 2008. I feel that teaching is the most rewarding job that I could have - children truly are our future and the early years are the most important in a child’s life.

Miss Jennifer - Older Toddler Assistant Teacher

I began volunteering at St. Paul's ECLC while my children attended VPK (2015-2017) and have been a substitute here since 2017. I am currently completing my CDA. I truly enjoy being around children and believe we can learn from the light and innocence they bring to every moment. I am a Sarasota native and live with my husband, our three children, Amelia, David, Remi, and our two dogs. I love volunteering, sewing and exploring the outdoors with my family.

Miss Kathy - Three-year-old Teacher

I have worked in childcare for over fifteen years and I have a CCAC (Childcare Apprenticeship Certification). During this time, I have worked with every age group (birth to five). This is my first year at St. Paul ECLC. I feel it is important to teach values and principles to children when they are young. Children are funny and unpredictable and a joy to be around. The most important thing to me is my relationship with Christ. My family is very close to me. My husband Tom and I love to go camping and kayaking. We have two crazy little dogs that love to kayak with us. I love making memories with my family.

Miss Olivia - VPK Teacher

My name is Olivia Partington-Farrow and I am so excited to be a part of the VPK team! I have been working with children of all ages for over 10 years. I am originally from Little Rock, AR and attended the University of Arkansas. Go Hogs! I will be graduating with my Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education this year. Ever since I was a little girl, my dream has been to educate and help future generations succeed. I love to watch sports, run, paint and organize. I can't wait to dive into VPK!
